Last Fling

The weekend before Oliver arrived we headed out to Naperville’s Last Fling festival. Fellow G-landers will understand why I kept referring to it as Final Fling. Aaron, Elijah, Janet, Guy, and me and my jumbo belly headed out to the kids area of the festival.

Elijah, Janet and I rode on a fun little train. Elijah was very serious and quiet the whole ride but afterwards kept asking to ride it again.

Janet took Elijah to the petting zoo area.

This was in the percussion petting zoo. There were all kinds of fun noise makers to play with. It was quite loud.

Fascinated by the bubble machine.

Waiting our turn at the toddler bounce house.

So much fun!

Summer Fun

We’ve done lots of fun things this summer.  Here are pics of just a few.

We love it when our family comes to visit. Not only do they help out with Elijah but we get to go on a rare date night!  Aaron and I headed out for dinner at White Chocolate Grill and a movie!

Elijah loves to help me cook and bake. So Janet made him an adorable little apron with The Very Hungry Caterpillar on it.

He put this diaper on his head and announced “Umbrella”.

Yummy smoothie popsicle to cool off on hot day.

One lazy Sunday we hung out in our PJ’s all day. Elijah and Aaron, mostly Aaron made a long box tunnel fort thing.  Elijah loves to crawl through tunnels.

Occasionally, will just lie down on the kitchen floor. This particular time I think he was sleepy.

IMAG0329

This time, it was really hot and I think he thought the cool air from the fridge felt good.

IMAG0380

Elijah loves to play with Trader Joe’s stickers when we go to the grocery store. This day, he went a little crazy.

IMAG0359

We go visit Dr. Steven our chiropractor a lot this summer. Elijah decided he wanted to lay down on the table for his adjustment just like Mama. It’s so cute.

IMAG0379

Elijah is very interested in babies since we’ve been talking about babies and our old neighbors had a baby in February. So we brought out Aaron’s old cabbage patch doll Eric. Here he is teaching “baby” to play the piano. He also loves to change his diaper, give him a bottle, sing to him and give him kisses.

A typical afternoon at home playing with trains.

Fun in the pool with Daddy at Grandma Rene’s house.

IMAG0337

Silly boy trying on Mama’s shoes. Occasionally we’ll have a day where he refuses to put pants on. This was one such day.

IMAG0344

One day, we ate our lunch outside and had a picnic in the back yard.

Themed Learning

I’ve been wanting to do some basic learning activities each week with Elijah but had a hard time finding age appropriate activities until recently. I stumbled upon the http://www.teachyourtot.blogspot.com and I love it! They have a new theme for each week and lots of activities to go along with it. There are crafts, books, food activities, songs, etc. It’s exactly what I was looking for.  Here are a few pics from some of the last few weeks.

Lady Bug week – we made ladybug cupcakes!

I think he was most excited to see the lion but it was sleeping. Maybe next time.

Summer Fun with the Fulkerson-Smith’s

We miss our old neighbors. It was nice living next door to a great family with a little boy Elijah’s age. So we always look forward to times when the boys can get together to play. The boys had a blast one Saturday in June playing in the pool and eating popsicles.

IMG_8058

They are great about hugging on command!

Jackson enjoying his popsicle.

As Elijah would say “num num”

IMG_8053

Elijah adores baby Kennedy. He loves to hold her and kiss her when she comes over.

IMG_8063

I had to throw this one in. She looks terrified!

IMG_8065

The boys love to hug! They are so sweet.

Jackson’s First Birthday

Our neighbor’s son Jackson Turned 1 in July.  He and Elijah are like brothers, they hang out so much.  Here they are playing at Wonderscope.

\Playing Elijah loved this car.

Driving

So much fun pushing things and walking!

I made the cake! Elijah, Jackson and Azela playing a swimming pool on top.

His parents announced their exciting news…Jackson will be a big brother in February!!

Houston Vacation 2010

We went to Houston this summer where Aaron’s uncle Mark, Guy’s brother also known as Uncle Monkey lives.  We all stayed at a lake house on lake Conroe and did a lot of skiing and tubing.

Elijah and I below in the water.  He hated this life jacket.

IMG_5843

Uncle Mark skiing.  He is pretty good, but he’s no Carl Hoyt.

IMG_6125

Aaron had never gone skiing before.  If you’ve ever gone before you know it’s a bit tricky at first.  Here he is waiting to go.

IMG_6075

Coming up for the first time…

IMG_6073

And wiping out.  To be fair he had a few good rides between the first try and this fall.  Here he was attempting to drop a ski.  He actually bruised his ribs really badly.  Great pic though eh?

IMG_6120_2

I thought it was really impressive that I took one hand off.  Not so much I guess.

IMG_6106_2

Tubing was a bit boring so we started a competition with Aaron’s sister Rachael and her boyfriend Tyler and kept trying to out do each other.

IMG_5902_2

Standing up, not as easy as it looks! Not bad.

IMG_5939_2

We attempted a piggy back but couldn’t get much higher than this.  I don’t have pictures of everything but they definitely won. I am a chicken.

IMG_5981

To end the show, a toe touch.

IMG_5996

Grandma Janet and an unhappy Elijah.  These life vests can keep a kid afloat should they fall off but they pretty much can’t move or have any fun.  It was so heavy if we let him stand up he’d fall backwards because of the weight of the vest.

Beautiful sunset from the deck.
